I'm making progress! Since my last post I have read quite some books that have both been interesting and fun (for the most part). I spent 5 weeks at my husbands' in Burlington, where I had a lot of time on my hands to devote to my studies, mostly sitting in a cafe or my favorite tea room (Dobra), while indulging into 3000 years of literature.
Right now I am sitting at Munich airport, waiting for my train home to Neumarkt, before I'll start my other new adventure on January 30th: teaching English in China.
As my battery is about to die and I'll have to leave for the bus shortly, I'll just give you a quick update on the books I've read and worked on these last 2 months:
I finished:
- Dickens' Hard Times
- Dickens' Great Expectations
- Austen's Emma
- Morrison's Beloved
- Sophocles' Antigone
- Sophocles' Oedipus Rex
- Genesis and Exodus, King James Version
- Tolkien's Fellowship of the Ring (unfortunately not part of my studies but a great book nonetheless)
I started working on:
- Dante's Inferno
That's all I can think of right now as I don't have my notes anywhere close right now. I really enjoy working on the Inferno, as I have two translations that I refer to while also reading the Italian original. Not that I understand much of it, but I get the gist and when I close read original and translations it makes a lot of sense. I'll probably do the same for the Greeks and Latins soon, as I have a lot of experience in reading/translating Latin and some experience in reading/translating Ancient Greek.
Right now there are also the e-seminars going on, they are fun and helpful, but I have yet to properly work on them which so far was kind of difficult as I was getting ready to leave the USA and my sleeping schedule was kind of crazy during the last two weeks, therefore my concentration wasn't always the best.
Ok, gotta run now!
Yours sincerely,
Kris
